Locally founded and operated, Hell's Kitchen has been functioning since the March 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. The name "Hell's Kitchen" derives from the reality of the chaos and struggle of life at a time when the frontlines of the war cut through Kharkiv itself. From the beginning, the kitchen sought to provide nutritious meals for people living in the instability of the war, and it broadened to provide food for hospitals and other treatment centres. The kitchen receives both local and international funding, and is staffed by volunteers from Ukraine and around the world.
